San Pedro de Rozados  -  Salamanca

23 km  +  2 x 100 m elevation = 25km effort

5h + 1 break of 30 min

We've made it - Salamanca! Came into town at 1h30 pm after half an hour's walk round along a sort of green belt like a more or less well maintained park - suddenly there was the Roman bridge and the cathedral. And as we were making our way into the town centre and walking along the Rua Mayor which goes from the cathedral to the Plaza Mayor we came across many tourists im groups or individually and I had the impression that we were quite a sight to behold - with our big packs and walking sticks.

Ended up in a cheap hostal, clean, with individual rooms, but shared bathroom - right on the Rua Mayor half way between the Plaza Mayor and the cathedral. After sleeping in dorms in the albergues this is heaven! ---

This morning we hot up latish, because breakfast was not going to be served before 7h, and the etappe was not going to be particularly long (did not think about having to go up for long stretches of track) and there was not going to be any sun! Which indeed there was not!

So we had all day to do the etappe; but, falling into our usual walking rhythm, we could not help arriving quite early. Had one break half way in a village for which we had to make a slight detour - coffee and a delicious piece of a kind of pie - and back to the road or rather track.

We did not have any road today!  Left just before a couple we had first come across yesterday - Spaniards from Barcelona; then we overtook Ulli and Willy, but stayed behind Rainer and Anne-Rose. Anyway it was track  through pastures and finally vast fields of wheat.

I do not think I mentioned that all these days in this vast landscape of pasture there were lots of little lakes or ponds - artificially made to catch water for the animals. ----

After lunching on what we had left in our packs and siesting, out to go to the tourist office in the Plaza Mayor. The is a phantasticly beautiful enclosed square with arcades going all around it. Got our info about what to see in town, buses to Madrid etc., had a beer in one of the bars which are all around the square and finally went in search of the bus station from where I too will be leaving for home.

And now we have just come back in after a visit to the cathedral - overwhelming!  - and a last meal together. And so to sleep......

SAN PEDRO DE ROZADOS    SALAMANCA

23 KM + 2 FOIS 100  DE MONT2E   25 KM  EN TOUT

5 HEURES ET UNE PAUSE DE 30 MN

On l'a fait, Salamanque ! On est rentrés en ville à 13:30 après une demi heure de marche le long d'une sorte de ceinture de verdure  ressemblant plus ou moins à un parc bien entretenu. Soudain on a vu le pont romain et la cathédrale.. En cheminant vers le centre ville le long de la rue principale qui va de la cathédrale à  la grand place on a croisé des touristes en groupe ou seuls et j'ai eu l'impression que nous étions près d'un site valant la visite ...avec nos gros sacs et nos bâtons de marche.

On est arrivés dans une auberge de jeunesse, bon marché, propre et avec des chambres individuelles mais une salle de bains commune, , située le long de la rue principale juste à mi chemin de la grand place et de la cathédrale. Après avoir dormi dans des dortoirs, cette auberge était comme le paradis.

Ce matins nous sommes partis tard car le petit déjeuner n’était pas servi avant 07:00 et l’étape n’était pas particulièrement longue (on ne pensait pas avoir à monter des sentiers interminables ) et le soleil était absent, ce qu'en fait était faux !!!

On avait toute la journée pour faire cette étape mais selon notre rythme de marche habituel on a pas pu s'empêcher d'arriver tôt ! On a fait une pause à mi chemin dans un village pour lequel on a du faire un petit détour - café et un délicieux morceau d'une espèce de tarte et retour sur la route ou plutôt la piste..

On n'a pas été sur une seule route aujourd'hui !  On est partis juste avant un couple que nous avions croisés pour la première fois hier, des espagnols de Barcelone, puis avons dépassé Ulli et Willy mais sommes restés derrière Rainer et Anne Rose, Mais tout cela sur des pistes traversant des pâturages et puis des champs de blé très étendus.

Je ne sais pas si je vous ait dit que ces derniers jours on avait vu des sortes de petits lacs ou de mares , crées par l'homme pour collecter l'eau afin d'abreuver les animaux.

Après avoir déjeuné de ce qui nous restait dans le sac et fait une sieste on est sortis pour aller à l'office de tourisme  sur la grand place. Il y avait un jardin public, magnifique et entouré d’arcades sur toute sa périphérie . On a eu nos informations sur ce qu'il y avait à voir en ville , sur les bus vers Madrid...on a pris une bière dans un des bars situés au tour du square et avons finalement recherché la gare routière  d'où nous partirons demain

Et nous voila de retour après avoir visité la cathédrale, un endroit irrésistible. Puis dernier repas ensemble et au lit...
