Galisteo  -  Oliva de Plasencia

30 km  +  150 m elevation = 31.50 km

6h30 + 2 breaks (45 and 50 min)

Up early (bad sleep - uncomfortable
beds) and out at 6h30 without breakfast (but I had had my coffee in bed). Sky overcast; quite cold.

And then we had 12 km on the road! Were not prepared for this at all because none of had read this chapter in the guide book. Helmut was particularly unhappy.

Arrived in Carcaboso and had breakfast in a bar and off again onto a large track and then it became a most pleasant walk again through vast meadows mostly with cows grazing. The many meadows were fenced in by dry walls - you go through many gates or across cattle grids (which I hate).

At one point we had to go up a never ending slope - not too steep though. The sun had come out a long time before - the one black cloud went past to shed its rain elsewhere! Everything was so beautiful! Life was good!

So much so that everybody said it was worth doing so many kilometres on the road to come to this - even the ones we were going to have to do when doing the deviation via Oliva to avoid the 40 km etappe from Carcaboso to Aldeanueva.

Explanation: in order to cut that etappe into two, one has to deviate quite far from the camino and has to do two days of 30 and 27 km instead of one day of 40km!

So we finished off today's walk with over 6 km on a fairly busy road into Oliva de Plasencia!

According to the book this albergue tends to be overbooked. However the hospitalera told us that there are not very many pilgrims on the road just now. Talking to other hospitaleros she found that mostly there are between seven and a dozen. Which is what we have found. There are of course those like Helmut and Joerg who tend to go for the comfort of a casa rural.

Anyway, we checked in, deposited our packs and, before anything else, went in search of a bar for a beer. Then the usual routine of washing ourselves and our clothes with the added touch of hanging up the clothes on racks which we put into the sun in the square!

Helmut and Joerg have gone to do some shopping and reconnoitre(?) where we have to go tomorrow.

Well, off to the bar again where I get wifi - good excuse!

06H30 DE MARCHE + DEUX POSES DE 45 ET 50 MN

Debout de bonne heures, mal dormi et lits inconfortables
Départ sans petit déjeuner mais café ,au lit pour moi. Ciel couvert, température assez froide.
Et puis nous voila partis pour 12 km sur la route, on n'y était pas préparés car personne n'avait lu cela dans le guide. Helmut était particulièrement mécontent.
On est arrivés à Carcaboso, on a fait une pause dans un bar pour le petit dejeuner et on est repartis sur une large piste  et là , la marche est devenue plus agréable en traversant de vastes prairies où paissaient les vaches. Les prairies etaient cloturées par des murs de pierre et on devait franchir des "passages canadiens" ce que je deteste
A un endroit on a eu à monter une pente qui n'en finissait pas, longue mais pas trop raide cependant. Le soleil s'était montré depuis un moment  et les nuages noirs étaient partis arroser un autre endroit; Tout était si beau, la vie est belle !!
Si bien que nous étions d'accord pour dire que cela valait la peine de faire quelques km de plus sur la route pour y arriver et même ceux que nous avions fait en faisant une détour par Olivia pour éviter les 40 km prévus de Carabosco à Aldeanueva
Explication : pour couper l'étape en deux parties on a du se détourner assez du chemin pour faire 30 km un jour et 27 le second au lieu des 40 km prévus
On a ensuite fini l'étape sur une route assez fréquentée dans Oliva de plasencia.
Si on en croit le guide, l'auberge devait être surpeuplée. Cependant l'hospitalière nous dit qu'à cette époque il n'y avait pas beaucoup de pèlerins sur la route. En parlant avec les autres hospitaliers qu'on devait être entre sept et douze, c'est aussi ce que nous avions compté. Il y en bien sur en plus ceux qui comme nous on tendance à profiter du confort d'un gîte.
Peu importe, on s'est inscrits, avons déposé nos sacs et avant toute chose avons cherché un bar pour prendre une bière. Ensuite la routine habituelle, lavage, lessive et en plus étendage sur des tancarvilles que nous avons mis au soleil dans le jardin
Helmut et Jorg sont partis faire quelques courses et reconnaitre l'itinéraire de demain quant à moi
 je retourne au bar pour avoir la wifi, bonne excuse !!!
