Day 15 Campomanes - Mieres Saturday, 25/06/2016
22 km and one very steep and slippery "blip" in the topo-profile
which I will not count
Sky overcast and humid atmosphere all day, but no rain
Out by 8:30 am with our packs for breakfast in the bar just down the road
which was on our way out of town.
What I forgot to mention last night is that our hostal was equipped with
washing mashine, dryer and electric radiators; so we put our clothes through
the dryer, but the thick socks needed a night on the radiators to get dry and -
oh bliss! - we set forth in clothes which were completely dry. Even the shoes -
Andrea had been scrounging old newspapers in the bar upon our arrival after the
experience in Pajares where the woman at the bar came up with one thin paper.
So what Andrea did not use last night she carried in her pack all day! So much
for that...
Back to today. There is not that much to say - the camino went along the
river Lena (which becomes the Caudal) practically
all day. A "blip" in the topo-profile where the camino was a very
steep stony path of very round fist-sized or slightly bigger stones which were
wet and therefore extremely slippery - even the girls went slowly and that is
something! Normally I balance my weight gingerly across difficult sections of
the camino while they just dance across and then they wait for me. However on
the flat we manage an even pace together.
At Villallana the camino changed direction to take us into the
village where in a little square next to the church were several benches which
were quite dry - so we had our picnic. Continued discussions about the Brexit
petition which is gathering speed....
And back to the walk along the river all the way to Mieres. Found a bar for
our beer/tea/water arrival drink in a large square with a lot of vegetation.
There a huge scene was set up, all black with gigantic loudspeakers - this is
Saturday! - and when the music started we fled.
This hostal is right next to a pedestrian street with some market stalls
and while I dropped into bed the girls went for a walkabout. They found a
restaurant which they took me to after having checked up on the number of
signatures the petition had reached - over 2 million! We had delicious tapas in
an almost empty restaurant - 8:30 pm - too early for Spaniards!

22 km et un
passage difficile, en pente et glissant ; je ne le compte pas

humidité toute la journée mais pas de pluie
Départ à
08:30h, sac au dos pour le petit déjeuner dans le bar au bout de la rue. Il était
sur notre route.
J’ai oublié de mentionner hier au soir que notre lieu d’hébergement était équipé de lave- linge , de sèche-linge et de radiateurs électriques ; on a mis nos vêtements dans le sèche- linge mais nos chaussettes épaisses ont eu besoin d’une nuit complète sur les radiateurs pour être complètement sèches. On a donc pu mettre des vêtements complètement secs et même les chaussures , car Andréa avait bourré les chaussures de papier journal récupéré dans le bar à notre arrivée et transporté l'excédent toute la journée dans son sac...
Retour à aujourd’hui. Il n’y a pas grand-chose à dire. Le chemin suivait la rivière Lena (qui devient la Caudal) pratiquement toute la journée. Seulement un passage délicat quand le chemin s’est élevé sur une zone très caillouteuse, un genre de galets gros comme le poing ou plus et donc très glissants. Même les filles allaient doucement et c’est assez rare pour le signaler ! Généralement j’équilibre mon poids avec précaution dans les passages délicats alors qu’elles survolent les sections difficiles et m’attendent ensuite. Cependant sur le plat on arrive à marcher de concert.
A Villallana le chemin change de direction pour nous mener dans le village où il y avait une petite place avec des bancs relativement secs ; nous y avons pris notre pique nique. On a continué à parler de la pétition « brexit » qui prend de l’importance.
Puis retour à la marche le long de la rivière jusqu’à Mieres. On a trouvé un bar pour notre traditionnelle boisson d’arrivée : bière/thé/eau sur une grande place avec une végétation importante. Une grande scène avait été installée avec des haut parleurs gigantesques. C’est samedi...et quand la musique a commencé on a pris la fuite.
Cet hébergement est tout près d’une rue piétonne avec des étalages de marché et alors que je me couchais, les filles sont parties faire un tour. Elles ont trouvé un restaurant dans lequel elles m’ont conduit après avoir vu que le nombre de signatures pour la pétition contre le Brexit avait dépassé deux millions.
On a pris des tapas délicieuses dans un restaurant presque vide car c’était trop tôt pour les espagnols (20 h 30 !)
