Villafranca de los Barros - Torremegia

27 km, practically flat all the way

5h15 + 2 breaks: 15 and 45 min.

Up at the usual time; last one out. Overtook a couple I did not know; then Jutta &co. then the Japanese couple and finally Jenny. The rest of the way the two of us took it in turns having our break and overtaking each other and the Japanese caught up with me every time I was leaving.

Well, this was the roman road - in this village there is this street called Calcada Romana - 19 km in a straight line on a large track which was gravelly some of the time, firm some of the time - since it is not raining - apparently the word "barros" attached to a placename indicates clayish mud which attaches itself to your boots making progress quite hard.

And since it is not raining progress was not hard at all. A steady breeze made for an easy walk inspite of the sun. But of course walking in a straight line for so many kilometres through a flat landscape which does not change at all is not interesting - vine plantations as far as the eye can see and well beyond because when you arrived where the eye could see, it is not finished, but goes on and on and on.

So I did a lot of singing, learned by heart "O pato" by Joao Gilberto, sang Sim's "J'aime pas les rhododendrons" mostly as la la; the Teddybears' Picnic is also very suitable for keeping up a steady pace; and finally the "Radezki March".

Ended up in an albergue where I am the only one so far. Which is alright occasionally - there are sheets on the beds and I was given a towel! And this albergue is right next to the camino - will be easy tomorrow morning!

However last night the others invited me to join them for their evening meal tonight. So now I will go out to find them, buy a bottle of wine on the way. This will be the last time that I will see some of them - I will do two etappes tomorrow. So.....

Debout à l'heure habituelle et la dernière à sortir
Ai dépassé un couple que je ne connaissais pas, puis Jutta et Cie, puis les japonais et enfin Jenny. Sur le reste du parcours on s'est doublés, dépassés selon nos pauses respectives et les japonais me rejoignaient à chaque fois que je repartais. Et bien, c’était une route romaine, dans ce village il y a une rue qui se nomme Calcada Romana- 19 km de ligne droite sur une piste large, rocailleuse parfois, bien tassée d'autres fois, tant qu'il ne pleut pas. Apparemment le mot "barros" qui est joint à certains noms de lieux indique que de la boue argileuse se colle à vos chaussures ce qui rend la progression difficile.
Et comme il ne pleut pas, la progression est aisée. Une brise soutenue semble faite pour faciliter la marche en dépit du soleil. Mais, bien sur, marcher en ligne droite tant de kilomètres à travers un paysage plat et immuable, ne présente pas beaucoup d'd’intérêt : des vignes aussi loin que porte le regard et bien au delà encore, mais on y va quand même.
Je fredonnais une chanson que j’avais en mémoire "O pato" par Joao Gilberto ,"j'aime pas les rhododendrons" ce qui est un avantage pour garder une allure régulière. J'ai enfin terminé par la marche de Radezki.

J'ai terminé à l'auberge où je suis la seule pour le moment ce qui est assez rare. Il y avait des draps sur le lit et on m'a donné une serviette. Et comme cette auberge est située près du chemin, ce sera facile demain matin !
Cependant les autres mon invité à se joindre à eux pour le repas. Je vais donc à leur recherche et acheter une bouteille de vin par la même occasion. Ce sera la dernière fois que je les verrai car demain je fais deux étapes en une, donc....
