"PS to Etappe 12: Pobena - Castro Urdiales.
Forgot to mention that all
along the coast from Pobena to Castro Urdiales you could see the remains of mining activity - I had noticed for some time that everything around springs looked brown like rusty iron and in fact iron used to be mined there in open cast(?) and underground mines. And with such a coast of steep rocks ships could come very close and the iron ore could be dropped straight into the holds of the ships.
Apart from that all along the basque coast and here as well, whaling used to be a very important economic activity - apparently the whales came to the basque coast to have their young."
