"La Tremblade - continued.

So, the following day Joseph puts me back on the path near the bridge and then goes to meet Michel to hand over my pack. I just carry a day pack and walk lightly the 17 km, mostly along
beaches, to La Coubre lighthouse. I telephone Michel to inform him that I can soon be picked up on a convenient parking lot - just want to go a little farther to have a look round the "pointe" to see what is to be seen on the other side. And I go, and go, and go.... Until finally I understand that I have been walking along all 5 km of a dune and now have to walk back the same distance because there is water on the other side and no way to get across it! 17 plus 10 - I had sworn I would not do such distances again! I was of course not carrying my big pack.....

Michel's house turned out to be an amazing affair - a jumble of little old houses and stables which he is joining into a most interesting spacious whole. It still needs a lot to be done to which he will do gradually as time and money allows...."

Le jour suivant, Joseph m’a déposé sur le sentier près du pont et a été rejoindre Michel pour lui remettre mon sac. Je ne porte qu’un sac léger pour la journée et je marche tranquillement sur 17 km, la plus part du temps le long des plages en direction du phare de La Courbe.
Je téléphone à Michel pour lui signaler que je pourrai être bientôt récupérée sur un parking mais que je veux marcher encore un peu vers la pointe pour voir ce qui est “de l’autre coté”. Et me voila marchant, marchant sur 5 km de dunes et je me vois obligée de marcher sur la même distance pour revenir car l’eau m’empêche de traverser !! J’aurai juré qu’il n’y avait pas une si grande distance  : 17 km + 10 km ! Heureusement que je ne portais pas mon gros sac à dos ...

La maison de Michel s’avère être particulière : un mélange de vieilles maisons petites et d'étables qui se rejoignent en un grand espace agréable à vivre Il reste encore beaucoup à faire, ce qui est programmé en fonction des disponibilités financières ...
